Student Leadership and Activities FAQs
Getting and staying involved is one of the most important things you can do while in college. Involvement in student organizations helps ease the transition from high school to college. It also helps you meet people and make friends with those who have similar interests. Involved students feel more connected to Blinn College, the campus, the people, and are more familiar with the resources that are provided for students. Being involved encourages and advances your development on all levels-intellectual, cultural, spiritual, and social.
As many as you want to be a part of. If it really interests you, go for it. It is an excellent way to meet people and connect with others. Remember that there are commitments for each organization, and to choose organizations that appeal to you and that may be of use later on in the real world.
Student involvement has actually been shown to help with academics while in college. As long as you manage your time wisely, being involved will not hurt you. It is up to you to keep your academic work priority, but we do encourage all students to participate in clubs and organizations outside of their time spent in the classroom.
Research suggests students who are involved in student organizations and campus activities have a higher G.P.A., graduate sooner, and have a better college experience. Gaining skills, making connections, and broadening your knowledge through a student organization will help you become a more well-rounded individual—one that’s ready to take on their future career.
Yes! If you can’t find a group with a purpose that defines where your interests lie- it is very easy to start your own student organization. Visit the SLA office for more information on the process of starting a new club.
