Meet Jennifer Wellmann

College Station resident Jennifer Wellmann knew she wanted to make a change. Seeking a more flexible work schedule, she enrolled in the Web Programming Program, where she could blend the creative and technical sides of her personality.

“I wanted to do something that would allow me to work remotely,” Wellmann said. “I also liked that web programming would allow me to use my creativity and still be involved in the tech side of it.”

The 9-credit-hour Occupational Skills Award (OSA) in Web Programming includes courses in web design, introductory computer programming, and the fundamentals of networking technologies.

The 18-credit-hour Level-1 Certificate in Web Programming includes the OSA, plus additional courses in web design, web programming, and implementing and supporting servers.

The 45-credit-hour Level-2 Certificate in Web Programming includes the OSA and Level-1 Certificate, plus courses in web programming, information technology security, and system analysis and design.

The 60-credit-hour Associate of Applied Science in Web Programming includes advanced web programming, project analysis and design, database programming, and an internship during your final semester.

All four awards can be completed on the Brenham and Bryan campuses. Select courses can be completed online.

Program graduates are qualified for careers as web developers and digital designers. According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, these positions earned a median salary of $80,730 per year in 2022.

You will need some basic math skills for the Web Programming Program at Blinn. Here's what you can expect:

  1. Basic Math: You'll use simple math for tasks like determining screen sizes, image dimensions, and layout calculations. These involve basic understanding of proportions and ratios.

  2. Algebra: Occasionally, algebra might come into play for more complex projects, such as calculating project costs or managing income and expenses.

  3. Tools and Software: Many mathematical calculations can be simplified using CSS frameworks, libraries, and online calculators.

Overall, while math is a part of web development, it is not the central focus. Basic math skills and the ability to use tools effectively will help you manage the necessary calculations. If you're comfortable with basic operations and using spreadsheets, you will be well-equipped for success in the program.
