Meet Angelia

An East Texas native, Angelia Gerhard began her architectural education with Blinn College before transferring to Texas A&M University and earning her bachelor's degree in environmental design. She now works for PlanNorth Architecture.

“I never thought I would like commercial architecture, but it’s really neat because we do a variety of projects," she said. "It keeps things interesting, and I’m constantly learning and evolving.”

Gain hands-on skills in Blinn’s cutting-edge architecture fabrication lab

On the Bryan Campus, Blinn architecture students utilize premiere architectural design software such as AutoCAD, SketchUp, Lumion, and Revit to craft intricate plans, elevations, sections, and build details. Then, they can seamlessly transition to the adjacent fabrication lab to transform their ideas into tangible 3D models, allowing them to envision their projects in a whole new dimension.

Program FAQ

Studying architecture allows you to combine creativity with technical skills to design spaces that enhance how people live, work, and interact with their surroundings. It opens doors to a rewarding career where you can help shape communities and create sustainable, innovative buildings for the future.

The Blinn Architecture Program offers a unique learning experience with a low student-to-teacher ratio, access to advanced technology, and partnerships that simplify transferring to four-year universities. Our recently renovated studio includes an expanded workspace for digital and large-scale hand drawings. Students can use our fabrication lab, complete with laser cutters and a 3D printer, as well as a resource library for research. The program also provides access to drones for capturing aerial photos and videos, which are valuable tools in architectural design.

You’ll learn from professionals with firsthand experience in the architecture field. Our faculty includes licensed architects and instructors actively engaged in commercial and residential construction projects.

The 60-credit-hour Associate of Arts in Architecture degree is designed to match the courses a student would take during the first two years of a typical architecture program at a four-year university. As a result, this is often the best degree plan for students who plan to transfer their credits toward a bachelor’s degree program.

The 60-credit hour Associate of Arts Field of Study degree is designed for immediate entry into the workforce and not for transfer toward an advanced degree.

For specific advice, please contact an academic advisor.

Both degrees can be completed on the Bryan Campus.

Blinn has specific architecture transfer agreements in place with Texas A&M University's Landscape and Urban Planning Program and the Texas Tech College of Architecture.

In addition, Blinn courses transfer to bachelor’s degree programs at universities across the nation, including Sam Houston State and the University of Houston.  Speak to an academic advisor at your university of choice to see how Blinn credits will apply toward your specific degree plan.

As the world seeks more sustainable and efficient buildings, careers in architecture continue to grow in demand. Even if you don’t pursue licensure, you can work alongside architects in various roles, contributing to design and project development.

In addition to careers in the architecture industry, graduates are qualified for positions in land and project development, technical sales jobs focusing on building materials, systems, and equipment, or positions with government agencies or financial institutions.

According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, architects earn a median salary of $80,180 per year.

Blinn’s program provides hands-on experience with industry-standard tools like AutoCAD, Revit, SketchUp, Lumion, and Adobe Creative Cloud. Through our four architecture studios, you’ll gain both 2D and 3D skills to support your career ambitions, whether you transfer to a four-year university or enter the workforce directly.

While an internship isn’t required, our program connects students with architecture firms through collaborative projects and in-class visits from practicing architects. These interactions offer valuable networking opportunities and insights into the profession.
